The cross on the left is the art work that I worked very hard and long on. A lot of time and patience went into its design.

The cross on the right is the one that the jeweler cast and hand engraved. It has its imperfections since it wasn't laser etched, but I think it adds to its uniqueness since it is a one of a kind. It took the jeweler 3 weeks.

I wear it always. There are 12 symbolisms that I have found in studying the cross. Some were planned and some were not and just happened. The cross itself is cast from solid 18K gold to give it a beautiful yellow luster. The circular band is solid platinum. The stone in the middle is an Aquamarine, and if you look closely to the stone, it is held in place with a platinum band. The cross measures, A little taller than 1.75 inches, and almost 1.25 inches wide.

The explanations and meaning of the cross are followed below.

  1. This is a cross, not a crucifix, which does not contain the corpus of Jesus Christ. This is the representation of the resurrection of Christ and life everlasting.
  2. I obviously designed it from a Celtic cross. It holds significance in my Irish surname.
  3. The ends of the cross are curved creating 8 points. This is derived from a Maltese cross. It represents the 8 beatitudes.
  4. The platinum ring that encompasses the cross signifies no beginning or end, and is symbolic of eternity. It is used most often as a reference to God.
  5. The ring is separated into four quadrants. The number four is usually used to represent the four Evangelists.
It may also be used to represent the four corners of the earth or the four seasons.
  6. On the first (upper left) quadrant is a 3 leaf clover and is a symbol of the Trinity and of St. Patrick, who used it to explain to unbelievers how God is One God in three Persons. Patrick would hold up a shamrock and challenge his hearers:"Is it one leaf or three?" "It is both one leaf and three," they would inevitably reply. "And so it is with God," he would conclude.
  7. The second (upper right) quadrant has the Greek symbols for Phi Kappa Theta. To me, this represents Brotherhood and Friendship. It has meanings that I've taken oaths to keep secret.
  8. The third (lower right) is a Cross that originates from Jerusalem. This is the cross given to me on a retreat in High school that changed my life for the better. It has four crosses inside a larger one, which has been known to represent the four corners of the world. The total of the 5 crosses represent the 5 wounds of Jesus.
  9. The fourth (lower left) says "RIP DAI". A fallen brother, a fallen friend, a fallen son and loved one too many. Love above all else is the most important gift God has given us, besides his son of course.
  10. There are 6 crosses that are aligned vertically on the cross. The two above the horizontal cross member are my two parents, and the 4 below are my 3 siblings and I. This was not planned at all. The jeweler just did it like this. The series of crosses aligned vertically could be perceived as a pillar of strength too.
  11. There is an Aquamarine stone in the center. It's my birthstone and is said to be a stone of healing and of the sea. Explains why I love the water so. Luke 12:48 "For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more."
  12. Last but not least is the platinum band that holds the stone in place. It is a powerful and yet beautiful band that holds the stone there. It is hard to see in the photo, but it is elegant and has notches around the top of the band. Similar to what you'd see on the side of dime. It is the symbol of my future wife. She that encompasses me. There is one part of the band that is flawed, though. It is my sign from God that she is not perfect in life, but only perfect in my eyes. You do not love a woman because she is beautiful; she is beautiful because you love her.
